Horse Oil

Where does it come from?

Horse oil and horse oil products have been known since the ancient times of China, were it was used as a “folk medicine” for treating burns, eczema, insect bites, cuts, asthma, foot fungus, and even hair loss. It was brought to Japan about a 1000 years ago becoming especially popular in Hokkaido region due to harsh climate and dry cold air beacuse of it’s ability to protect the skin in those conditions. The vast land in the region allowed easily to farm horses for the purpose of producing horse oil.https://s3.pixers.pics/pixers/700/FO/39/98/68/24/700_FO39986824_f9cc321ba32b289075c5aeeef37d900d.jpg

The product is made out of extracted horse fat. Farmed horses were raised for their meat to be served in the form of basashi otherwise known as raw horse. They were not just slaughtered only for the purpose of producing a skincare product, but rather they were farmed for food and their oil would be a byproduct of this process
